What the hygiene visit actually covers

Digital x-rays, and why this office went paperless
The practice takes low-radiation digital x-rays rather than film, and runs a paperless office it describes as as green as it can manage. The x-ray is what actually decides whether anything past this page is needed at all.
That's worth saying plainly: an x-ray is information, not a sales step. It's how a hygiene visit turns into a conversation about a filling, a crown, or nothing at all, and it happens on screen, not in a folder somewhere in the back.

Tooth extraction and root canals sit at this end of the preventative ladder too. They aren't the goal of a hygiene visit, but they're the reason the ladder exists, and the practice treats them as ordinary appointments rather than a crisis.
What preventative work is meant to prevent
Fluoride mixes with the enamel as teeth are still forming, which is why it matters most for children, and it's part of what keeps a cleaning a cleaning rather than the start of something bigger. Sealants do a narrower job: a plastic coating over the biting surface of permanent teeth, meant to help prevent cavities in children.
